Domenic J. Veronda
Age 96 of Coal City, passed away Friday August 31, 2012 at the Joliet Community Hospice Home in Joliet.
Born October 6, 1915 in Coal City, Domenic was a son of the late Anton and Ann Bates-Veronda. He was raised in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School. Domenic was a Veteran of the United States Army and honorably served in the European Theater of Operations with the combat engineers during World War II. On August 16, 1941, Domenic married Genevieve Pomatto in South Wilmington and she preceded him on January 11, 2007. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, former member of the VFW in South Wilmington and belonged to Laborers Local #75, from where he retired at the age of 62.
Survivors include three sons: David (Judy) Veronda of Channahon, Daniel (Brenda) Veronda of Ottawa and Dean (Kimra) Veronda of Coal City; seven grandchildren: David A. Veronda of Channahon, Robert (Tammy) Veronda of California, Thomas Morris, Jr. of Mazon, Stacey Veronda of Indiana, Sarah Kay Veronda of Peru, Adrienne (Charles) Williamson of Arizona and Damien Veronda of Coal City; seven great grandchildren and one sister-in-law Helen Veronda of Coal City.
Domenic was preceded in death by his parents; wife Genevieve; brother Tony Veronda and two sisters: Lillian Unger and Betty Kauzlaric.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Monday September 3, 2012 between the hours of 5:00PM and 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Tuesday September 4th at 9:30AM in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Braidwood.
