Dennis Watson, Sr.
Age 75 of Coal City, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Silver Cross Medical Center in New Lenox.
Born October 3, 1940, Dennis was a son of the late George and Irene (Cornale) Watson. He was raised in Coal City, and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1958. On December 26, 1959, Dennis married Elizabeth "Betty" Doyle in Assumption Catholic Church, and together they made their home in Coal City. Dennis' employment entailed working at Illinois Clay Products, the Joliet Arsenal, Caterpillar Tractor Company, and Uniroyal. He also worked as a mechanic at Boresi and Unger's Service Station, and owned and operated Denny's Service in Coal City. Dennis retired from Quantum/Equistar. In his earlier years, in addition to square dancing, Denny was quite the sportsman who enjoyed softball, bowling on a league and playing golf. He took pleasure in camping at the Coal City Area Club, was an avid hunter, and made many memorable fishing trips to Canada. Denny will be most remembered for his love of time spent with his family and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty; three children: Dennis, Jr. (Laura) Watson of Coal City, Danny (Augie) Watson of Morris and David Watson (Wendy Wojner) of Abbotsford, Wisconsin; six grandchildren: Nicholas (Stephanie) Watson of Algonquin, Jason Watson of Vienna, Tiffany Watson (Kyle Oakes) of Goose Lake, Holly (Cole) Phillips of Sauk City, Wisconsin and Craig and Samantha Watson of Morris; six great grandchildren: Doyle, Ryland and Brynn Watson and Emma, Brooke and Brian Phillips, and one brother and two sisters: Cheryl (James) Berta of Dwight, Ron (Rita) Watson of Naperville and Lana Pogliano of Walnut, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents: George and Irene Watson and brother-in-law: John Pogliano, Jr.
Per Denny's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. A private family inurnment will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery at a later date.
Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Denny's memory to the Coal City Food Pantry.
