Age 55 of Wilmington, passed away peacefully in his sleep March 19, 2013, as the result of an unknown cardiac condition.

Born February 28, 1958 in Kankakee, Dennis was a son of the late Earl and Virginia Ferdinand-Spears. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1976, and continued on to attend Bradley University. He was formerly employed for many years with AAA as a Unix Systems Administrator and most recently worked for Crossmark. Dennis was a former member of the NRCS Soil and Water Board for the County; worked with the Wesley Township Land Use Commission and the Kankakee Watershed Board, and carried out the close of his father's term as Wesley Township Supervisor following his father's death. Dennis' interests included skydiving and computers, and he also assisted his brother Claude as a sound crew member for various air shows.

Survivors include his brother Claude (Liz) Spears of Robins, Iowa; sister Robin (Jim) Sommers of Chebanse and one nephew Steve Scanlon of Hiawatha, Iowa.

Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will receive friends on Saturday March 23, 2013 between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 3:00PM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Sugar Creek Chapel Cemetery in Stockland, Illinois.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Dennis' memory to his family for their distribution.
