Dennis R. Smith

Age 35 of Coal City, passed away Tuesday August 26, 2008, as the result of an automobile accident.

Born February 13, 1973 in Morris, Dennis is a son of Gary and Susan Pierce-Smith of Coal City. He was raised and educated in Coal City and was a graduate of Coal City High School with the Graduating Class of 1992. Dennis was employed as a mechanic at Tire Tracks in Morris.

Survivors include his parents: Gary and Susan Pierce-Smith of Coal City; one brother: Keith (Jennifer) Smith of Morris; one sister: Kayla VanDerKarr of Tinley Park; grandmother: Rosie Pierce of Davenport, Iowa and four nieces and nephews, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dennis was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather: Earl Pierce; paternal grandparents: Raymond and Vivian Smith; step-grandfather: Fred Emanuelson; one uncle: Raymond E. Smith, Sr., and three cousins: Ronald E. Smith, Jr., Raymond Smith, II, and Lonnie Vaughn.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday September 02, 2008 from 5:30PM until time of memorial service 6:00PM at the Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 East McArdle Road in Coal City. Dr. Thomas Logsdon will officiate and interment will be private at the request of the family.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Dennis' memory to his family for distribution to local charities of their choosing.
