Age 79 of Milan, Tennessee, formerly of Wilmington, Illinois, died Monday, July 1, 2024 at his home.
Born February 4, 1945 in Hammond, Indiana, Dennis Edward was a son of Edward and Bessie (Bumgardner) Cox. He was raised and educated in Decatur, Illinois, and went on to enlist in the United States Armed Forces. Dennis served from 1965 to 1967 when he received his honorable discharge from service. On December 9, 1968, he married Judith Elaine Jordan, and together they would relocate to Joliet, Illinois before settling in Wilmington.
Dennis worked for Vulcan Materials in Joliet as a heavy equipment mechanic, giving 40 years of dutiful service until he retired. He was a past member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 241 in Wilmington and a member of the Goldwing Roadriders motorcycle club. There was nothing Dennis loved more than being out for a long ride on his Goldwing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be remembered fondly by all who loved and knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Cox of Milan, TN; four children: Don Cox of Lake Village, Indiana and John (Summer) Cox of Wilmington, Tanya (Darrin) Jones of Wilmington, and Denise (William) Taylor of Rensselaer, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren: Phillip Zavala, Alaina Zavala, Kayla Cox, James Cox, John Cox, Jr., Jesse Cox, Grace Taylor, Finnegan Taylor, Murphy Taylor, Josh (Hailey) Jones, Molly Jones, Sam (Sydney) Jones, Allison Taylor and Cody Taylor; ten great grandchildren: Anna Taylor, Colt Taylor, Owen Shinn, Marcus Shinn, River Jones, Walker Jones, Jayce Zavala, Alexander Guzman, Payton Perry, and Chloe Perry; one sister, Debbie Cox of Decatur, Illinois, and several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob Cox, and one sister, Donna Sue Pollard.
Per Dennis' wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
