Age 95, of Diamond, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Morris Hospital.
Born on January 27, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, Dee was the daughter of Dominic Joseph “Duke” and Bertha (Facinelli) Rossi. At an early age, her family moved to Coal City, where she attended Catholic grade school before completing her education at Northside School and graduating from Coal City High School with the Class of 1947.
While working at the Morris Paper Mill, Dee met the love of her life, Ivan Provance. The two were married on October 31, 1948, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coal City. They began their life together in Morris before settling in Coal City, where they raised their family and built a home filled with love and laughter.
Over the years, Dee dedicated herself to her career, holding positions at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant before spending 25 years with UniRoyal. She was also deeply involved in her community, devoting her time and talents to causes close to her heart. A devoted member of Coal City United Methodist Church, Dee actively participated in Bible studies, the food pantry, and the Evening Star Circle. She had a gift for making others feel welcome, always extending a warm greeting to new members and visitors.
Her social nature and generous spirit led her to become a charter member of the Coal City Junior Women’s Club and a proud participant in the UniRoyal Club outings. She also gave back through Meals on Wheels, ensuring those in need received not just food, but kindness and companionship.
Dee’s creativity and passion for craftsmanship shone through her love of sewing, quilting, and decorating. She had a knack for making beautiful holiday décor and table runners, and she found joy in gardening, tending to her cherished plants with care. She was always up for a game—whether it was solitaire at home or mahjong with friends and neighbors at the Country Meadows gatherings.
In earlier years, she and Ivan found great joy in camping, first at the Coal City Area Club and later on adventures across the country, making countless memories along the way. Family was the heart of Dee’s world, and nothing brought her greater joy than watching her family grow. She never missed an opportunity to support her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, proudly cheering them on at every milestone and event.
Always eager to stay connected, Dee embraced technology and kept up with family and friends on Facebook, ensuring she never missed a moment.
Dee will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her boundless love for family, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. Her legacy of warmth, generosity, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Survivors include her two sons: Steven (Jane) Provance and Gerald (Patricia) Provance, both of Coal City; grandchildren: Sheri (David) Fiala of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Michael (Katie) Provance of Coal City, Stephanie (Adam) Orr of Kansas City, Missouri and Matthew (Jessica) Provance of Coal City; great grandchildren: Anna McLaughlin, Henry Fiala, Emery Provance, Michael “Duke” Provance, Everett Orr, Evelyn “Evie” Orr, Allister Orr, Caleb Provance and Callie Provance; two sisters-in-law, Doryce Scharman and Betty Watson and numerous nieces and nephews.
