David J. Potts
Age 59 of Morris, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday March 27, 2007 at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park.
Born January 30, 1948 in Joliet, David was a son of the late Harold and Anna (Truffa) Potts of Coal City. He was raised and educated in Coal City and was a 1966 graduate of Coal City High School and a 1970 graduate of Eastern Illinois University. David also graduated from Governors State University where he earned his Administrators Certificate.
David previously taught at Highland High School and Coal City High School, and was currently employed as Director of the Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) where he was involved with many vocational organizations including: TREES Executive Counsel, President of AVC Directors, ETC Executive Board, WIB Board Member, IASA Member, IACTE Member, ASCD Member and Tech Prep Member.
David was a well known resident of Morris and Grundy County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Morris, Methodist Mens Group and Morris Country Club. He was involved in the Trinity Capitol Campaign and the Trinity Dinner Dance Committee, and was a Grundy Economic Development Council Board Member. David served on the Illinois State Board of Education task force for career and technical education and had recently been chosen as an Illinois delegate to the 2007 Model Schools National Conference in Washington, DC.
In his leisure time, David enjoyed fishing with his son Chris, golf, traveling and following the White Sox and Notre Dame.
David is survived by his wife of 36 years Charlene (Morrisey) Potts; one son Christopher M. (fiancAC. Cristal Cruz) of Detroit, MI; one daughter Kelly of the Trinity Living Center, Joliet; one sister Kathy (Bob) Plott of Union, KY; one brother Richard (Toni) Potts of Mesa, AZ; two nieces Claire and Anne Morrisey, as well as several cousins. David is preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2007 between the hours of 3:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 E. Washington Street in Morris. David will then lie in state Monday April 2nd from 10:00AM until time of funeral services at 11:00AM at the First United Methodist Church in Morris. Rev. Tom Ostrander will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Dennis Best, Paul Barry Nelson, Clifford Besch, Tim Hanley, Shawn Hamilton, Lance Copes, Mark Hulbert and Howard Whitney.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be made as gifts in David's memory to Trinity Services in Joliet, IL, where his daughter Kelly has received services for 26 years.
