David Lee Matlock

Age 64 of Lakeland, Florida and formerly Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, St. Louis, Missouri and Wilmington, Illinois - passed away Friday July 12, 2013 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Born February 24, 1949 in Orleans Parish, New Orleans, Louisiana, Dave is a son of Elnora Imogene Anderson (nee Warner) and the late Lee Matlock. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1967 and DeVry Institute of Technology in 1970. Dave's career began with Clennon Electric in Wilmington and evolved holding employment over the years with Ecolab in Joliet, JS Alberici Construction in St. Louis and Fox Realty and Rubenstein Partners in Philadelphia - from where he retired three years ago. Dave was a member of the AF&AM, IBEW Local #176 in Joliet and Saint John's United Church of Christ in Foristell, Missouri. He was an avid wine collector and enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf, as well as loved to travel. Dave cherished the time spent with his family and friends. He also loved every minute he could spend with his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events.

Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years: Marilyn (nee Wright), whom he married on September 26, 1981; four children: Michelle (Ronald, Jr.) Conner-Rector of Wentzville, Missouri, Brian Matlock (Tyra Berning) of Wilmington, Illinois, Aaron Matlock of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Valerie Conner-Rogers of Breese, Illinois; his mother Elnora Imogene Anderson; mother-in-law: Frances Marie Wright; ten grandchildren: Lauren (Shawn) Rector-Butler, Bradley Rector, Kyle Villarreal, Conor Burton, Brady Villarreal, Steven Matlock, Anthony Villarreal, Brandi Rector, Riley Matlock and Maximus Rogers; one great granddaughter Callie Butler and three brothers: Michael (Jane) Matlock of Wilmington, Illinois, Randy (Connie) Matlock of Pawnee, Illinois and John (Tracey) Anderson of Morrison, Illinois, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents: Roy and Ruth Matlock and Elmer and Ethel Warner; father Lee Matlock; step-father John Anderson; father-in-law Glenn Wright and grandson Cameron Matlock.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial visitation with video tribute will be held on Monday July 22, 2013 from 3:00PM until time of Life Celebration 7:00PM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington.

The family will then again receive friends Tuesday July 23rd at St. John's United Church of Christ, 60 St. Johannes Lane in Foristell, Missouri from 2:00PM until time of Christian burial 4:00PM. Reverend Devin Jones will officiate.
