David W. Brandt

David Wilbur Brandt from Morris, Illinois passed away on September 12, 2023 after a quick battle with cancer. Born on April 8, 1950 he grew up in Craig, MO. He moved to Morris shortly after he graduated from High School, following his brothers here.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Lois Olson, his daughters Annette (Richard) Chavez of Wilmington,, Dawn Krause of Morris, his son and daughter-in-law Kevin (Amy) Brandt of Morris, two brothers Royal (Billie Jean) Brandt of Morris and Dale (Song Cha) Brandt of Foley, Alabama. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, whom he adored, ten great grandkids and many nieces, nephews and in-laws who he always enjoyed spending time with. He was preceded in death by one son, David Charles Brandt, his parents, Wilbur and Vera (Langworthy) Brandt, and two brothers, Clifford (Ruth Ann) Brandt and Raymond “Gene” (Louis) Brandt. Also, several nieces and nephews as well as his in-laws.
David was always happy to spend time with family. Especially doing things like camping/hiking/picnics in the park. He loved going to his place in Wisconsin, especially when the whole family was there, even though it was total chaos! He was also proud of his work in VA Veterans going through PTSD and his work with the AA community. “Helping others while help ourselves.”
His favorite hobbies were picking on the grandkids, going for walks, reading, petting his animals and collecting old metal toys.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.
Dave will be cremated and did not want to have a wake. In lieu of the wake, we will do a Memorial Service Picnic at Goose Lake Prairie State Park, one of his favorite places to go with the family. He wanted people to remember him while dressed in comfort and being happy, not all stuffy and sad. Weather permitting, this will take place on Sunday, October 8th from 1-4pm. Any and all are welcome.
Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St. in Morris is in charge of arrangements.
