Age 79 of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday July 15, 2008 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

Born February 06, 1929 in rural Livingston County, Illinois, Darlene was a daughter of the late Clovie and Goldie Underhill-Longest. She was raised in the Resthaven area of Wilmington and was a retiree of the Fox Center in Dwight. Darlene was a member of the Wilmington Women of the Moose, as well as the Ladies Auxilliary of the Wilmington VFW, Malcomb J. Mayo Post. After retirement Darlene enjoyed babysitting infants to toddlers for close friends, and was known as "Gammie" to many. She was a member of the "McDonalds Coffee Club", would never miss anyone's birthday, and loved reading and word searches.

Survivors include nieces and nephews: Arthur L. Longest, Jr. of Coal City, Gloria Longest of Morris, Rachael (Jim) Cletcher of Wilmington, Joy Longest of Tennessee, Richard Longest and Alan Longest, both of Wilmington, Jack Bodoh, Jim Bodoh, Karen Hudack and Barbie Seifert, all of Wisconsin, Melody (Russell) Conrad of Spring Valley, Illinois, David Conrad of North Carolina, Carol E. (Kevin) Murphy of Virginia, Thomas K. (Karen) Longest of Rhode Island and Bobby Longest and Shirley Longest, as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great niece.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, son Dan Gula, four brothers: Fred, Russell, James and Arthur Lavern, Sr., Longest and one sister Irene Bodoh.

Visitation will be held on Thursday July 17, 2008 from 4:00PM until time of funeral service 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 219 North Joliet Street (two blocks North of Illinois Route 53 / Baltimore Street) in Wilmington. Rev. George Hendricks will officiate and a private family interment will follow.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Darlene's memory to the Alzheimers Association.
