Age 72 of Coal City, passed away Saturday February 20, 2010 at home.

Born July 1, 1937 in Morris, Darlene was a daughter of the late John and Mildred Bezner-Hauschild. She was raised and educated in Coal City, and graduated from Coal City High School with the class of 1955. Darlene continued her education at Silver Cross School of Nursing, from where she graduated in 1958, and later earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Governors State. Darlene married Frank "Bud" Giordano and all of their married life they lived together in Coal City. Darlene was director of nurses at Morris Lincoln Nursing Home; was the first school nurse in Coal City, where she worked for 22 years, and then began selling real estate and was associated with Onorato Real Estate. In 2000 Darlene started and developed Country Meadows Senior Community in Diamond. She was a member of the Coal City United Methodist Church, Trustee for Felix Township, charter member of Breaking Away in Morris and member of the Grundy TB Board, Morris Hospital Foundation and was very involved with the Grundy Historical Society. Darlene enjoyed traveling with her sister, going on cruises, using timeshares and spending time with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and family.

Survivors include her two sons: Scott Joseph (Lori) Giordano of Mazon and Keith (Amy) Giordano of Morris; four grandchildren: Amanda (Tony) Gill of Coal City, Alex Giordano of Morris and Madison and Joey Giordano, both of Mazon; four great grandchildren: Peighton, Natalie, Alaina and Carter Gill; one brother: Vernon Ray (Sylvia) Hauschild of New Mexico; one sister: Phyllis Czerkies of Vernon Hills as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bitz was preceeded in death by her parents and husband Frank "Bud" Giordano in 1989.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Tuesday February 23, 2010 between the hours of 3:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City.

Darlene will then lie in state Wednesday February 24, 2010 from 9:00AM until time of service 11:00AM at Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 East McArdle Road in Coal City. Reverend Brent Phillips will officiate and a funeral luncheon will immediately follow the services in the fellowship hall.

Private family interment will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery and pallbearers will be: Dave Hauschild, Kevin Czerkies, Jeff Czerkies, Tony Giordano, Steve Kerr and Tony Gill.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Darlene's memory to the Coal City United Methodist Building Fund, Grundy County Historical Society or the American Cancer Society.
