Daniel J. O'Keefe
Age 72 of Carbon Hill, passed away Friday evening May 9, 2014 at Morris Hospital.
Born April 26, 1942 in Joliet, Daniel was a son of the late Donald and Pearl Kratochvil-O'Keefe. He was raised and educated in Braidwood, and on September 30, 1961, Daniel married Bonnie Skubic in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. He held employment with Commonwealth Edison, and retired in 1997, after 37 years of service. Daniel was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, CECO Recreation Club, Coal City Area Club and the Dwight Country Club. He was a former Carbon Hill Trustee and coached little league baseball. Daniel loved golfing and fishing with family and friends, hunting, and following his grandchildren's activities. He was an avid Chicago White Sox fan and took pleasure in spending time at his home in Kentucky. Daniel and Bonnie traveled both domestically and abroad, and he was proud to have been able to golf in Hawaii, Alaska and Ireland.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Bonnie; two sons: Paul (Alicia) O'Keefe of Morris and Tim (Marla) O'Keefe of Coal City; four grandchildren: Michael O'Keefe of Grandview, Missouri, Lauren (Joshua) Kaluzny of Warrenville and Nolan O'Keefe and Shaela O'Keefe, both of Coal City.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jewel in infancy and one granddaughter Olivia O'Keefe.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Monday May 12, 2014 between the hours of 3:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Tuesday morning May 13th at 9:30AM in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wilmington.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Daniel's memory to the American Cancer Society.
