Daniel Greggain, Jr.

Age 71 of Coal City, passed away Thursday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.

Born February 24, 1941 in Chicago, Dan was a son of the late Daniel and Helen Kuesen-Greggain, Sr. He was raised and educated in Wilmington; graduated from Wilmington High School with the class of 1959, and from Joliet Junior College in 1961. Dan served with the Illinois National Guard from 1963 to 1969, and on June 11, 1966, he married Marlene Pierard in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. Together Dan and Marlene resided in Wilmington prior to moving to Coal City where they raised their family. Marlene preceded Dan in death on September 26, 2005. Dan was a member and past president of the Wilmington Moose Lodge, belonged to the Coal City Area Club, served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman, and formerly held the position of Grundy County Tax Assessor. He retired from Frito Lay Corporation in 1996 after 35 years, and then gained employment with the Empress Casino, where he worked for 8 years, retiring in 2002. In recent years Dan lived between Chandler, Arizona and Coal City and enjoyed spending his free time volunteering for the Morris Transportation Department Patient Transport Services. He also loved playing cards and working for the Chicago Cubs during their Spring training. Dan will be remembered as always being a truly friendly guy who never knew a stranger.

Survivors include three sons: Daniel J. Greggain and David A. (Jennifer) Greggain, both of Coal City and Dean L. (Karrie) Greggain of Chandler, Arizona; four grandchildren: Emma Williams, Nolan Greggain, Evan Greggain and Hayden Greggain, and one sister Nancy (Paul) Singelyn of Naperville, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and wife Marlene.

A Celebration of Dan's Life with Video Tribute will be held on Wednesday September 19, 2012 between the hours of 3:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. A family inurnment will follow Thursday in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where Dan will be laid to rest with his wife Marlene.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Dan's memory to the Morris Hospital Transportation Services, 150 West High Street, Morris, Illinois 60450.
