Charles H. Schroeder
Age 80 of Wilmington and formerly Sherrard, Illinois, passed away Saturday April 21, 2007 at his home.
Born July 26, 1926 in Bettendorf, Iowa, Charlie was a son of the late Charles and Agnes (Knab) Schroeder. He attended school in Bettendorf and become a stone mason bricklayer from 1941-2001. He served in the US Navy from 1944-1946, was a life member of the Wilmington VFW, member of the Wilmington Moose Lodge and member of the Bricklayers Local #6.
Survivors include his wife Kay (Niehls-Tucker), whom he married in 1993 in Rockville, Indiana; sons: Bud (Lynn) Schroeder of Andalusia, Illinois, Randy Schroeder of Sherrard, Illinois, Karl (Nancy) Schroeder of East Moline, Illinois and Kurt Schroeder of Rock Island, Illinois. Daughter Jean Short of Davenport, Iowa; stepson Don Tucker of Mazon, Illinois and stepdaughters: Kay Ann (Mike) Attaway and Susan (Frank) Kiper, both of Wilmington. (15) Grandchildren, including his "One Movie Star" Kristina, six great grandchildren; three sisters: Mildred Hawley and Myrtle Willis of Alaska and Ida (George) Kerr of Cordova, Illinois.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; the mothers of his children: Arline (Cool) Schroeder and Shirley (Arnor) Schroeder; stepson Gary Klinger, three brothers: Wilbur Schroeder, Elmer Schroeder and William Schroeder and one sister Kay Daily.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Thursday April 26, 2007 from 1:00PM until time of funeral service 4:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 219 North Joliet Street (two blocks North of Illinois Route 53 / Baltimore Street) in Wilmington with Rev. David Lagos-Fonseca and Rev. Shirley Pulgar-Hughes from the First United Methodist Church of Wilmington officiating. Graveside services will follow on Friday April 27th at 2:00PM in Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island where Pastor Kathy Remley from the First Baptist Church of Cordova will officiate.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Charlie's memory to a charity of the donors' choice.
