Charles T. Janulis, Sr.
Age 81 of Kankakee and formerly of Wilmington, passed away Saturday February 7, 2015 at Westwood Oaks in Kankakee.
Born March 17, 1933 in Chicago, Charles Thomas was a son of the late Charles and Louise (Pukas) Janulis. He was raised and educated in Chicago and attended Chicago Vocational High School. On April 16, 1953, Charles enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served during the Korean Conflict until his discharged as Corporal on March 9, 1955. It was on May 9, 1959 that Charles married Marian J. Malmquist in Chicago, and she preceded him on August 22, 2005. Charles worked as a shift supervisor for Calumet Heat Treating in Chicago prior to gaining employment with the Illinois Department of Corrections. He retired from Stateville Correction Center in 1995 after 18 years of service. Charles was a lifetime member of the Wilmington V.F.W. as well as the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed the outdoors and made many trips domestically throughout the country. Charles will be remembered as an accomplished artist who took pleasure in painting with various mediums, furniture restorations and woodworking.
Survivors include his children: Jana (Ralph) Flores of Wilmington, Jean (Larry) Yates of Manteno and Charles T., Jr. (Michelle) Janulis of Wilmington; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister June Janulis of Braceville and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marian, and one sister Evelyn (Bob) Sulzer.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Wednesday February 11, 2015 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow Thursday morning February 12th at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood at 11:30 a.m., where Charles will be laid to rest with his late wife Marian.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Charles' memory to Kuzma Care Cottage, 635 South Main Street, Wilmington, Illinois 60481.
