Charles Cecil Christner
Age 95, formerly of DeKalb and West Chicago, passed away Monday morning, March 12, 2012 at Heritage Health in Dwight.
Born April 21, 1916 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Charles was a son of Frank and Margaret Ferguson-Christner. He was raised in Mt. Sterling, and on September 21, 1940 married Patricia Helen Riter in Nauvoo, Illinois. Together they lived in Chicago prior to moving to West Chicago in the early 1950's. It was later in 1990 that Charles then moved to DeKalb. Charles worked as a self-employed wholesale egg dealer and retired in 1979. He enjoyed gardening, doing handyman repairs and auto repairs. Charles will be remembered for his love of spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include five children: Ronald (Bonnie) Christner of New Orleans, Louisiana, James (Karen) Christner of Goreville, IL, Linda (Bill) Kane of Racine, Wisconsin, Dan (Polina) Christner of Douglasville, Georgia and Terese (Tom) Wills of Coal City; seven grandchildren: Scott (Fran) Christner of Aurora, Michael (Melissa) Christner of Mandeville, Louisiana, Nolan (Stephanie) Green of Lisle, Benjamin Green of Joliet, Philip Green and Belinda Green, both of Coal City and Sofia Ivashchenko of Douglasville, Georgia; eight great grandchildren: Lindsay and Carlene Christner of Aurora, Carleigh, Emersyn, Cade and Adyson Christner all of Mandeville, Louisiana, and Cooper Green and Zachary Toplak, both of Lisle; one Great Great Grandchild Chase Christner; two sisters: Dorothy Zander of Mt. Sterling and Norma Rahn of Aurora and one sister-in-law: Leah Viola of Oceanside, California, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Patricia in 1972; grandson Jeffrey Christner; three sisters, three brothers, three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
Visitation and video tribute will be held Wednesday March 14, 2012 between the hours of 4:00PM and 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City.
A private family burial will follow Thursday in Calvary Cemetery in West Chicago.
Preferred memorial may be made as gifts in Charles's memory to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
