Age 94 of Coal City, passed away Wednesday March 27, 2013 at Walnut Grove Nursing Home in Morris.

Born April 30, 1918 in New Berlin, Illinois, Catherine was a daughter of the late Edwin M. and Kathryn A. White-Cole. She was raised and educated in New Berlin; graduated from New Berlin High School, and later attended Illinois State University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education. Mrs. DiPaolo taught for numerous schools including: Girard Township High School, Coal City High School, Coal City Middle School, Braidwood Elementary School, and Assumption Catholic School prior to her retirement. Catherine was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where she was involved with the Assumption Mothers Study Club. She was also active with the Coal City PTO and Coal City Band Boosters. Her educational associations included: Illinois Educational Association, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Grundy County Retired Teachers, and North America Educational Association. Catherine remained very active within the community and was honored with the Citizen of the Year Award during a past October Fest. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking and reading, and will be remembered for her letters and notes in which she took pleasure in writing to friends.

Survivors include three children: David (Kris) DiPaolo of Corona, California, Donna (Roger) Hanley of Tampa, Florida, and Jeanine Congalton of Fullerton, California; ten grandchildren: Mark DiPaolo, Doug (Kathy) DiPaolo and Amy (Scott) Brenneman all of Corona, California, Kara (Paul) McDonnell of Yorba Linda, California, David Hanley of Tampa, Florida, Paul (Steffeny) Hanley of Dayton, Ohio, Mary C. (Richard) Allen of New Port Ritchie, Florida, Ann (Scott) Hills of Lithia Springs, Florida, and John Hanley and Susan Hanley, both of Tampa, Florida; (14) great-grandchildren, and one sister-in-law Hallie Cole of Escondido, California, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Pete DiPaolo whom she married December 31, 1941, and two brothers: Edwin Cole and Robert Cole.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Thursday April 4, 2013 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Friday April 5th at 10:00AM in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating. Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.
