Catherine R. Carey

Age 91 of Kinsman, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 12, 2015 at Morris Hospital.

Born August 10, 1923 in Streator, Catherine was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Fabina) Venegone. She was raised and educated in Streator and graduated from Streator High School. On March 17, 1956, Catherine married Robert Carey in Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Eagle Township, and together they made their home in Highland Township, Kinsman. Catherine worked (15) years in the Accounting Department at Owens Glass Company in Streator and later worked for the Office of Lana Phillips, Grundy Country Clerk. She was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish in Kinsman and belonged to the Sacred Heart Society.  Catherine was a Democratic Central Precinct Committeeman and will be remembered as a diehard Chicago White Sox fan. She loved flowers, was very much active and involved in the family farming operations, and enjoyed playing bridge. Catherine took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and never missed a family get together.

Survivors include two sons: Pat (Susan) Carey and Tim (Belinda) Carey, both of Kinsman; (9) grandchildren: Sarah Carey (Mike Weaver), Jordan Carey (Zane Hinely), Jessica Carey, Megan Carey, Chrissie Carey (Leon Thornton), Mike (Kate) Carey, Amanda (Ryan) Anderson, Alyssa (Pat) Ugolini and Kevin Carey; (8) great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Margaret Kime and Jean Whammond; two nephews: Gene Venegone and Byron Johnson and one niece Regina Bellott.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert, son R. Daniel Carey, brother Gene Venegone and sister Frances Johnson.

Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 219 Emmett Street in Kinsman on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow Thursday morning July 16th at 10:00 a.m. in church, where a Mass of Christian of Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Stanley Drewniak officiating. Burial will be in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Ransom.

Pallbearers will be: Mike Carey, Kevin Carey, Pat Ugolini, Ryan Anderson, Cody Carey, Leon Thornton.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Catherine's memory to the Sacred Heart Parish Building Fund.
