Cary “Cowboy” Rosenbaum

Age 60 of Dwight passed away Monday July 25, 2016 at Morris Hospital.

Born May 20, 1956 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Cary is a son of Charles Malcolm and Joyce Ann Petersen-Rosenbaum. He was raised and educated in Bradford, Illinois, and graduated from Bradford High School with the Class of 1974. On November 22, 1997, Cary married Patricia Sue Sassenger (nee Tambling) in Forrest, Illinois. He was employed by Pontiac Correctional Facility for 23 years, in addition to owning and operating Rosenbaum Landscaping, which was an outlet for his desire for working outdoors.  Cary attended Family Harvest Church in Tinley Park where he was able to express his passion for the word of the Lord.  He enjoyed deer and squirrel hunting, trapping, and blacksmithing. Cary adored his grandchildren and cherished the opportunity to spend as much time with them as possible.

Survivors include his parents: Chuck and Joyce Rosenbaum of Bradford; his wife: Patricia Rosenbaum of Dwight; three children: Joshua (Sherri) Sassenger of Auburn, Georgia, Chenoa (Donnie) Tolan of Minonk and Jason (Kady) Sassenger of Normal; ten grandchildren: Alex, Adam, Cayden, Emalynn, Miley, Gavin, Jackson, Wesley, Desmond and Tessa; four siblings: Brent (Patty) Rosenbaum, Lois  Gerard (Doug "Fuzz" Barman) , Eric (Ann) Rosenbaum and Shelley (Jeff) Postula; several brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cary was preceded in death by his grandparents; brother Kurt Rosenbaum and nephew Justin Gerard.

Visitation will be Friday July 29, 2016 at Dwight United Methodist Church, 701 South Columbia Street, in Dwight from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Round Grove Cemetery, rural Dwight.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Cary’s memory to the Family Harvest Church Youth Program.
