Carolyn L. VanArkel

Age 77 of Diamond, Illinois and formerly of Coal City, Illinois passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, May 19, 2024 at The ARC of Dwight.

Born January 6, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Carolyn Lee Sanders was a beloved daughter of Robert George and Mary Emily (Vickery) Sanders. Raised and educated in Chicago, Carolyn married the love of her life and 'partner in crime', William Andrews VanArkel, on January 18, 1964, at St. Leo the Great Parish in Chicago.

Carolyn's professional journey included several years of dedicated service at Roy Rogers Restaurant in Oak Lawn. She later became a respected Clerk for Braceville Township, a position she held for 11 years, and worked at Dan’s Dogs in Coal City for 3 years. Carolyn was an active community member and former member of the Republican Women’s Club of Grundy County.

An avid collector of frogs and passionate about genealogy, Carolyn enjoyed researching family histories and treasured the connections she made along the way. Her hobbies reflected her curious spirit and love for the intricate stories of people's lives.

Survivors include many cousins, including her special cousins, Joseph and Carol Vanosky of Ohio, as well as special friends and wonderful neighbors in Country Meadows.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill and one sister, Mary Ann Taylor.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and Carolyn and Bill will be laid to rest together at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois.
