Carl M. Herbert
Age 91 of Custer Park, formerly Staunton, Illinois, passed away Tuesday July 28, 2015 at his home.
Born June 12, 1924 in Staunton, Carl was a son of the late William Sr. and Ann Lukesch-Herbert. At the age of fifteen, he relocated to Joliet where he graduated from high school and married Geniveve “Ann” Paton on June 15, 1946. Carl served in the United States Army during World War 2 as a rifleman. Following his military service, he joined the Joliet Pipefitter’s Union Local #422, of which he was a 65 year member. Carl was also a member of the Shriner’s, the Joliet A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge and the Staunton VFW Post 1241, in addition to being actively involved at the Wilmington VFW Post 5422. He enjoyed fishing, traveling with his wife and family, and spending time with his cat, Tiger.
Survivors include his two sons: William (Peggy) Herbert, Sr. and Robert Herbert of Custer Park; five grandchildren: Lori (Vincent) Jordan of Pennsylvania, Lynn (Scott) Christian of Custer Park, William (Wendy) Herbert, Jr. of Braidwood, Maria Herbert-Cogar of Peoria and Leslie Herbert of Chicago, and eight great grandchildren: Megan Rose, Cole Jordan, Jaden Christian, Jace Christian, Cloey Herbert, Cash Herbert, Corrine Cogar and Zach Herbert.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Ann Herbert; and two brothers: William Herbert, Jr. and Kenny Herbert.
Cremation rites were accorded, and a visitation will be held on Thursday July 30, 2015 from 11:00 AM until the time of memorial service at 12:00 PM, at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington. Pastor Zak Wagner of Grace Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment with Full Military Honors will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Carl’s memory to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
