Betty Jane Stangland

Betty Jane Stangland, 87, of Morris, passed away early Sunday morning, December 27, 2020 at the Morris Hospital.
Born July 3, 1933 in Morris, she was the daughter of Harold and Helen (Larson) Johnson. She graduated from Morris High School with the class of 1951. Betty married Robert Stangland on April 23, 1955 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris where she also was baptized. For all of their married life they farmed in Nettle Creek Township until moving to Morris in 2004.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Jan) Stangland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jenna and Keil Stangland, Tim Stangland, Crystal (Ed) Kelly, Michael Dunn and Krystal (Darren) Howard; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Tom (Judy) Johnson of Wilmington and Rick Johnson of Morris; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her loving husband, Robert on August 10, 2020; her daughter, Susan Dunn; her son, Timothy Stangland; one sister, Mary (Warren) Leach.
She was a member of the Stavanger Lutheran Church where her and Bob were initial members of the Home Builders Club at the Stavanger Church, she taught vacation Bible school for several years and was very active in the Ladies Aid which provided dinners and helped sponsor the pork chop barbecue dinner.
Betty cherished her role as devoted wife to Bob and mother of her children. She enjoyed sharing time and watching her grandchildren and the many great grandchildren grow. Betty always had a positive attitude that was infectious with everyone she knew.
Her favorite pastime was talking on the phone to her many friends and shopping at Walmart.
Memorials may be directed to Morris Hospital or Macular Degeneration Research Fund.
Private funeral services for the family will be held on Saturday at the Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St. in Morris with Rev. Philip Peterson officiating.
