Age 81 of Morris, passed away Wednesday January 6, 2010 at Morris Hospital.

Born August 14, 1928 in Gardner, Betty was a daughter of the late Louis and Hannah Hill-Monson. She was raised and educated in the Gardner area and graduated from Morris High School with the Class of 1947. On December 17, 1950, Betty married Richard Maskel, Sr. in Morris, and Richard preceded her in death on May 4, 1998. Betty was employed by Sears in Morris for more than 20 years until her retirement and she was a member of the Morris Country Club. She was known for her love of traveling with her family and singing. She was involved with the Sweet Adeline's, and most recently attended First Baptist Church in Morris. Betty was very dedicated and devoted to her family and friends, and was especially fond of her companions Tiki and Puzzle.

Survivors include three sons: Richard (Gail) Maskel, Robert (Vicky) Maskel and Thomas (Tracy) Maskel, all of Morris; eight grandchildren: Meghan (Billy) Martin, Matthew Maskel, Monica Maskel, Nicole (Kevin) Janettas, Darren Maskel, Thomas Maskel, Jr., who was Betty's special caregiver and Brittany and Tyler Kinney; two great grandchildren: Addison and Maggie; one sister Mary (the late George) Shugart; one brother Elton Monson; one sister-in-law Patricia (Joe) Misener and one brother-in-law David (Phyllis) Maskel, all of Morris, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard Maskel, Sr., one brother Lyle Monson, one sister Lorraine Welch and her special friend James Ruffner of Houston, Texas.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Friday January 8, 2009 between the hours of 5:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 East Washington Street (one block East of Illinois -Route 47) in Morris. Funeral services will follow on Saturday January 9th at 10:00AM in First Baptist Church, 1650 West Illinois Route 6 in Morris, where services will be officiated by Pastor Steve Larson.

Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Morris.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Betty's memory to First Baptist Church of Morris or Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice.
