Benny R. Hedrick
Age 72 of Wilmington, passed away Thursday evening May 22, 2008 at his home.
Born April 21, 1936 in Mount Erie, Illinois, Benny is a son of Mamie Hedrick (Nee Moore) of Cisne, Illinois and the late William "Bud" Hedrick. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1954. On July 20, 1957 Benny married Doris M. Rawlish in the Kankakee United Methodist Church, and together they lived most of their married life in Wilmington. Benny was a member of the Carpenters Union a�" Will County Local #174 for 52 years and retired in 1993 as a superintendent having served 19 years with Modern Builders Industrial Concrete in Joliet. He was a member of the Wilmington Masonic Lodge #208 AF&AM, past member and president of the Wilmington Lions Club, past chairman of the Teenage Rodeo and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Wilmington, where he was involved with the Senior-Youth Group, working for Habitat for Humanity. Benny was known for his love of golfing, woodworking, traveling and camping and was a car enthusiast, as well as a NASCAR fan. He loved spending six months out of the year as a "snowbird" in Florida and could be found attending nearly every band concert, parade and activity, in which his grandchildren participated.
Survivors include his loving wife Doris; mother Mamie Hedrick; two sons: Stephen (Kathleen) Hedrick and John (Mary) Hedrick, both of Custer Park; five grandchildren: Erica, Joshua, Seth, Brett and Brian Hedrick; one great grandson Cole Hedrick; one sister Patricia (Raymond) VanDyke of Lady Lake, Florida and one brother-in-law James (Betty) Rawlish of Coal City, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Benny was preceded in death by his father William "Bud" Hedrick.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 27, 2008 from 3:00PM until time of Masonic Services 7:30PM. A memorial service will then immediately follow with Rev. David Lagos-Fonseca and Rev. Shirley Pulgar-Hughes from the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington officiating.
Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Benny's memory to Kankakee Valley Hospice, 482 Main Street NW, Bourbonnais, Illinois 60914.
