Anna Mae Winke of Gardner, Illinois, formerly of Lake Shannon, Reddick, Illinois, and Lockport, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 surrounded by her family.
Born November 20, 1931 in Logansport, Indiana, to the late William Pumel and Cora (nee Rinehart) Pumel-Albertson. Anna married the love of her life, Edward F. Winke on August 23, 1948, and he passed away April 22, 2012.
Surviving are her three children, Edward Lonnie (Paula) Winke of New Lenox, Illinois, Kyle Ann (Dean) Cunning of Gardner, Illinois and Cheryl Lynn Winke of Downers Grove, Illinois; four grandchildren: Aaron Winke, Timothy Winke, Erica Mendyk (John Totura), and Sean (Kaitlyn) Mendyk; her great granddaughter, Kinsley, one sister, Carolyn Sue Kline of Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her half brother, Edward Pumel Johnson, and her brother-in-law, Roy Kline.
Anna and her husband Edward loved going to the Lockport VFW where Edward had served as Vice Commander and Anna was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 5788. They loved to meet their family and friends there and dance the night away. When the band, Eddie Korosa Jr. and the Boys from Illinois, would play at the VFW, they always played the song, "Unforgettable" and said, this song is for Ed and Ann Winke. They were an Unforgettable couple that shared an Unforgettable love.
In Anna's later years, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She lived with her daughter, Kyle, and son-in-law Dean, on Lake Greenfield. She loved running errands with Dean in his truck and in the summer they would take the Ranger utility vehicle to visit friends. Dean kept recordings for her of her favorite TV show, "The Carol Burnette Show", and she loved to attend all of the summer festivals.
Ann's family wishes to show much love and appreciation for the caregivers who looked after her over the years. A special heartfelt thank you to Lightways Hospice of Joliet, Shanna Arnold, Anna's nurse, and Emma Fisher, Anna's current caretaker. Thank you for making her life better.
