Andrew Samuel Poulos
"Andy"
Age 82 of Diamond, passed away Sunday morning January 6, 2008 at Morris Hospital.
Born February 22, 1925 in Batavia, Illinois, Andy was a son of the late Samuel and Asimo Georgeacopoulos-Poulos. He was raised and educated in Batavia and Graduated from Batavia High School. Andy attended the University of Illinois and Barbers College at the Clairol Academy of Hair. Andy was a veteran of the United States Marines and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War, II. Most recently he worked as a Union Pipe fitter and retired in 1985 from the Pipefitter's Local 597 after 40 years of service. Andy was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Joliet and served as the building inspector and as a commission with the Village of Diamond for 13 years. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and the Chicago Bears.
Survivors include one daughter: Asimo (John) Thackeray of Diamond; five sons: Andrew (Jane) Poulos of North Lake, James (Andrea) Poulos of Berwyn, Michael Poulos of Chicago, Bryan (Betsy) Hennessy of Gardner and Martin (Sara) Hennessy of Minooka; (16) Grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Helen Poulos of Wheeling and Theresa Poulos of Hot Springs, Arkansas; his special friend Cheryl Marks of Gardner and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: Tom, Gus, Steve, James and Pete and one sister Sophie.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Wednesday January 09, 2008 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow on Thursday January 10th at 10:00AM in the funeral home with Fr. Steve Bithos from All Saints Greek Orthodox Church officiating.
Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood with acting pallbearers: Marty Hennessy, Bryan Hennessy, Bill Chesko, Kevin Marks, John Thackeray and Paul Opyd.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Andy's memory to his family to distribution to local charities of their choice.
