Alvina M. Halliday (nee Schoenfelder)
Age 80 of Coal City, passed away Wednesday November 28, 2007 at Heritage Manor in Dwight.
Born August 09, 1927 in Dimock, South Dakota, Alvina was a daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Herrmann a�" Schoenfelder. She was raised and lived in Dimock, where she married Leonard "Doc" Halliday on October 17, 1950. After marriage they then lived most of their married life in Coal City. Alvina was employed by Demert for more than 20 years until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary. In her free time Alvina enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, playing cards and working in the yard.
Survivors include three sons: Jeff (Donna) Halliday of Coal City, Tim (Bev) Halliday of South Elgin and Terry (Carol) Halliday of Coal City; three daughters: Peg (Jerry) Tessler and Pam (Mike) Tessler, both of Braidwood and Kelly (Bill) Leopold of Coal City; Jim Muntefering, who was like a son to her; (21) Grandchildren; seven Great Grandchildren; her sister Mary (Marv) Hohn of Dimock, South Dakota; sister-in-law Wilma Boddicker of Parkston, South Dakota and dear brother-in-law Wally Halliday of Coal City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Alvina was preceded in death by her parents: Anthony and Anna Herrmann a�" Schoenfelder; husband Leonard "Doc" Halliday in 1997; one son Michael Halliday; one daughter Patricia Scubic; two brothers: Wilfred and Vince Schoenfelder and two sisters: Millie Halliday and Dorothy Muntefering.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Friday November 30, 2007 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Alvina will then lie in state Saturday December 1st from 10:00AM until time of funeral services 11:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Mike Pennock officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington and pallbearers will be: Chris Tessler, Eric Tessler, Justin Halliday, Jeffrey Halliday, Riley Halliday and Kyle Halliday.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Alvina's memory to her family for distribution to local charities of their choice.
