Alice Margaret Lovell

Age 90 of Rockville Township, Manteno, passed away Saturday August 6, 2011 at the Miller Center in Kankakee.

Born October 19, 1920 in Joliet, Alice was a daughter of the late Clarence D. and Catherine E. McGovern-Green. She was raised and educated in Joliet, a graduate of St. Patrick's grade school and Joliet Township High School. Alice continued her education at Joliet Junior College and married Laverne P. Lovell, who preceded her in death on May 11, 2008. Together Alice and Laverne lived and farmed together in the Rockville Township area their entire married life. Alice was a teacher for over 20 years and began teaching in the rural Will County School District. She then taught at Our Lady Academy in Manteno and later retired from the Manteno Public School District. Alice was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Wilton Center, where she served as parish organist for numerous years and belonged to the Kankakee Farm Bureau. She enjoyed traveling and playing cards, as well as antiques and frequenting antique shows. She can be remembered as a great Chicago Cubs fan and for her love of time spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Gladys (John) Meyer of Manteno; two grandsons: Donald (Mary) Meyer of Urbana and David (Donnette) Meyer of Kankakee; one great granddaughter Allyson Meyer and one sister Loretta Long of Manhattan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband Laverne and three brothers-in-law: Francis Long, Francis (Margaret) Lovell and Gene (Phyllis) Lovell.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 9, 2011 between the hours of 3:00PM and 8:00PM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. (815/476-2181). Funeral services will follow Wednesday August 10, 2011 at 10:00AM in Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Wilton Center, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Dan Hoehn officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Alice's memory to Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Wilton Center or Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
