Richard D. Steele
Age 75 of Braidwood and formerly of Forest Park, passed away Saturday evening, March 12, 2016 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born March 6, 1941 in Chicago. Richard Dennis was a son of the late William Henry and Rosalie (Mullen) Steele. He was raised in Chicago and graduated from St. Mel's High School. On February 18, 1961, Richard married Catherine Fountain in Lombard, and together they made their home in Forest Park until moving to Braidwood in 1995. He was employed by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) for 20 years before going to work at McDonald's Corporation, where he earned his Stationary Engineers License. Richard later retired from Ryder Corp. in 2015. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Braidwood and belonged to the Braidwood Recreation Club. Richard was a fan of the Chicago White Sox, who enjoyed camping and fishing, as well as working in his yard. He took the greatest pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include six children: Ricky (Cathy) Steele of Chicago, Mike (Kathy) Steele of Ohio, Jimmy (Kathy) Steele of Oak Lawn, Kelly (John) Blum of Bartlett, Cathy (Steve) Goris of Missouri and Kimmy (Scott) O'Kane of North Riverside; (17) grandchildren: Hannah, Michael, Matt, Katy, James, Caitlin, Jack, Abbey, Tommy, Sean, Rachel, Kyle, Catherine, Sarah, Grace, Patrick and Maggie; three great grandchildren: Wesley, Avery and Beau; two sisters: Janet Steele of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Nancy Steele of Broadview; one brother Bill (Lucy) Steele of Villa Park and brothers and sisters-in-law: Judy (the late John) Christ and Mary Espinosa, both of Plainfield, Danny (Melody) Fountain of Warrenville, and Susie (Brent) Craig of Streamwood, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Cathy (2013); one sister Rosemary Jasutis and sister-in-law Patty Schultz.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Thursday, March 17th at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 South School Street in Braidwood. Reverend Show Reddy Allam will officiate.
Richard's Grandsons: Michael Steele, Matt Steele, James Steele, Jack Blum, Tommy Blum, Sean Blum, Patrick O'Kane and Kyle Goris will act as pallbearers.
A private family inurnment will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery at a later date, where Richard will be laid to rest with his late wife Cathy.
Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Richard's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice.
