Richard Joseph Meadows, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Morris, IL on Nov. 26, 2021.
He was born July 26, 1945 in Greensboro, N.C, to Joseph and Pauline Meadows and grew up in a military family making many moves in his early years. He graduated from Milton High School in Milton, Florida in 1963 and attended Pensacola Junior College.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1972, first on the USS Bushnell (AS 23), the USS Cowell (DD 547) and lastly on the USS Bainbridge (DLGN-25) as an Electronics Technicians First Class Petty Officer.
In 1972, he moved to Morris, and worked for Exelon for 23 years, primarily at Dresden Station. After retiring from Exelon he worked as a consultant in the utility industry for Duke Energy. In 1999, he went to work for RR Donnelly as member of their Y2K team and retired again in 2003.
He was a founding member and first president of Grundy County Amateur Radio Club. He was a volunteer for the Grundy County Emergency Management Agency as well as a Corn Festival volunteer for many years. He was an active volunteer at Immaculate Conception School. He was interested in anything mechanical. He rebuilt a Taylorcraft with a friend and enjoyed restoration of military vehicles.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Suzanne, his three children, Jennifer (Ken) Smith, David (Cecily), and Kate, his twin brother Robert and five grandchildren Nathan (Karla), Madeline, Preston, Harlow and Vincent as well as special friends Doug and Angela Todd.
Visitation will be held on Monday Nov. 29, 2021 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 E. Washington Street in Morris, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021 at 10:00 am in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 E. Jackson St, in Morris. Rev. Jason Stone will preside.
Burial with full military honors will be held at 11:00 am on Friday Dec. 3, 2021 in Barrancas National Cemetery, onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola in Pensacola, FL.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Rich’s memory to the Immaculate Conception School Feeney Memorial Scholarship Fund, 505 E. North St., Morris, IL 60450
